USG of carotid and vertebral arteries is a non-invasive, painless treatment of blood circulation in blood vessels. It doesn't require any previous preparation from the patient The treatment's technique is based on the use of The Doppler Method. This method involves the change of ultrasound frequency when it hits the blood platelet. The changes are registred by the USG aparatus and transmited into a graphic shown on the monitor.
USG with The Doppler method is a basic method of diagnosing pathological changes in carotid arteries. The treatment can be safely repeated in case of monitoring the level of stenosis. On the basis of blood flow speed and direction, it is possible: to discover stenosis of arteries, to assess the risk of brain stroke, to diagnose dizziness, tinnitus etc.
The addition of principal and secondary preventive actions , in just cause, can greatly lower the risk of brain vessels diseases.
Actions to prevent brain ischemia, when the USG diagnoses stenosis, include: lifestyle changes (decrease of smoking, physical activity increase, diet change) pharmacotherapy (consistent medical therapy according to individual cause of vessel disease e.g. antiplatalet drugs, coagulants, antihypertensive drugs, anti-diabetic medications, cholesterol lowering medications) surgical treatment - endarterectomia ( surgical removal of arteriosclerosis) or stenting (percutaneous angioplasty with the implemention of a stent broadening the artery attacked by arteriosclerosis) what is a recommended option for patients with a 50-70% stenosis of carotid arteries. The efficiency of endarterectomia is proved by prestigious European tests (ECST-European Carotid Surgery Trial) and American tests (NASCET- North American Symptomatic Carotid Endarterectomy Trial).

Preventive actions are crucial because arteriosclerosis incarotid and vertebral arteries is getting bigger what leads to narrowing of the vessel and finally to closing of the blood flow into the central nervous system and ischemia. After applying preventive actions into the therapy it is very important to constantl monitor the level of carotid arteries narrowing.

The equipment needed to Doppler's treatment of cerebral arteries must be a cutting edge device in order to show an extremely precise measurement of arteries narrowing, the speed of blood flow and the assesment of the general look of blood vessel. It enables reliabe test results and as an effect of it - the patients' safety.

Indications for the USG treatment:
-elderly people, after the age of 65
-hypertension, lipid disorders, diabetis
-heavy smokers
-people after a brain stroke
-people after partial brain ischemia
-sight and speech disorders or neurological disorders due to central nervous system ischemia
-genetical burden with vessel disorder
-planning a surgery e.g.
by-pass implementation
coronary arteries angioplasty
aorta aneurism operation
-murmurs over the carotid vessels

H&BC is equipped with a high-tech USG aparatus for vascular tests.
It enables us to perform Doppler Duplex treatment alongside with colourful blood flow transmission and the use of Power Doppler. Options necessary for a reliable cerebral arteries treatment include: the possibility of proper blood flow and speed assesment in the vessel, PI and RI indexes. When all ptions are used at once (2D, Doppler, impulse, colour) we call it as Triplex. Such treatment requires a high-tech ultrasonograph because the transmission of echoes demands a lot of time and processing power of the aparatus. The aparatus is also equipped in a function increasing the number of lines and the speed of processing what improves the signal - murmur ratio, digital correction and optimization of the image and digital system of ultrasuond ray creation. It improves the resolution, contrast, dynamics, system enabling a real time blood flow testing without the regard of different tissue echogenicity and also the digital architecture of the system enabling fast image processing.

The high quality of equipment guarantees world class service. .
